Profile of Secretary General: Eliphaz BAHIZI

Eliphaz Bahizi was born in 1952 in Southern Province (Rwanda). His mother tongue is Kinyarwanda, but he speaks French very well and understands English.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in natural sciences from the National University of Burundi (1983).

He taught biology for10 years in several secondary schools in Burundi before returning home in 1994 from a 20-year exile.

In 1995, he was appointed to the Ministry of Education, Department of Science and Research.

In 1999, he became acting director of higher education in the same ministry.

From 2000 until now, he is the secretary general of Rwandan National Commission for UNESCO (CNRU/RNCU).

He has participated in many UNESCO international conferences and had several short training courses among others in administration and management, computer skills, human rights, English language, HIV/AIDS fitting, etc.
