Supporting the awareness and launching campaign of the CoE of Biodiversity and Natural Resources Management in Rwanda
Within its department for Science and Technology, the CNRU is currently supporting the launch of the Center of Excellence in Biodiversity and Natural Resource Management (CoEB&NRM).

At the ‘First international research conference on Biodiversity and Sustainable Management of Natural resources’ in July 2007, H.E. President Paul Kagame had addressed the lack of scientific knowledge, research capacity and the missing links between scientific knowledge and national development strategies. He, therefore, called for the creation of a center that would fill these shortcomings.

After a series of studies and consultation meetings led by the UNESCO in the following years, the Center of Excellence in Biodiversity and Natural Resources Management was established at its Hub at University of Rwanda and is coordinated by Prof. Beth Kaplin. For the center awareness and launching campaign, the CNRU provided a set of publicity materials (banners, pull ups, brochures, website and logo design) and assisted at several events within the last months at which the center was presented.

On 22 May 2015, on behalf of the CoEB Steering Committee, the CNRU staff participated in a video talk on the International Day of Biodiversity on TVR.

Also, in the week of World Environment Day on 6 June 2015, the Center held a public lecture at the Huye Campus of the University of Rwanda. The event highlighted the breadth of activities related to environmental conservation within the College of Science and Technology which aligned with the 2015’s theme of World Environment Day: Seven Billion dreams. One Planet. Consume with care.

From 16 to 20 June 2015, the CoE took part in the annual workshop set up by the Regional Network for Conservation Educators in the Albertine Rift (RNCEAR) at Credo Hotel in Huye. Under the overall theme of Enhancing Community Based and Institutional Partnership for Biodiversity Conservation Excellence at the Country Level the participants also discussed the possibility of collaboration and the complementarity framework between the Center and the Regional network.
